WHAT IS NURSING RESEARCH & INNOVATION DAY?
We are proud to announce University Hospitals’ Inaugural Nursing Research and Innovation Day. The first of its kind, our 2020 virtual conference fuses two past events into one, UH Ventures Innovation Day Series and UH Nursing Research Events. This is to celebrate UH nurses and showcase research and innovation in nursing practice, education, and leadership.
In 2019, the World Health Organization deemed 2020 as ‘The Year of the Nurse and Nurse Midwife.’ This demarcation has grown further significance with the implications of COVID-19 on the nursing profession and the incredible resiliency in which nurses in and outside our system exhibit in times of crisis and beyond. This virtual (at least for this year!) conference was founded to showcase and celebrate nurse innovators, researchers, and students, as well as nurse-led and nurse-centered startups, that are making or made an impact in 2020.
The day will feature inspiring keynotes, a ‘Nurse Innovators, Researchers, & Students’ (NIRS) showcase and competition, interactive and actionable How-To’s for Research & Innovation, and announcements for what is to come next for nursing at UH. Stay tuned for further updates on the day over the coming weeks.

NURSE INNOVATORS, RESEARCHERS, & STUDENTS (NIRS) SHOWCASE
All of this starts with you – and the important research and innovation you’re pursuing in your nursing role at UH.
UH nurses and nursing students at UH are invited to apply to be considered for the Nurse Innovators, Researchers, and Students (NIRS) celebratory showcase, for either research or innovation. Research-oriented submissions should be studies, posters, or publications. Innovation-oriented submissions should be ideas, designs, or prototypes. As innovation and research go hand-in-hand, some submissions will speak to elements of both.
We are featuring research and innovation projects, ideas, and studies designed for and by nurses and nursing students. Nurses and nursing students in the UH system make a profound impact on patient experience, workplace culture, and truly exemplify the UH Mission Statement: To Empower. To Advocate. To Innovate. A steering committee will determine the final showcase participants. Chosen participants of the showcase will be featured in a 5 to 10 minute segment during the 2020 conference to share their story with a live audience. Final awardees will be honored by members of the UH Nurse Executive Council and receive support to further pursue their project and/or idea. We can’t wait to see your submission!
Ideas, stories, and studies can be submitted which are in any level of development, and do not need to be long, complex or fully developed. All submissions will be reviewed by a steering committee including frontline staff, UH Nurse Executive Council, UH Clinical Research, and UH Ventures.
Please submit all applications here by Aug. 10, 2020.
